Inpatient pregnancy care to transition to Ascension Saint Alexius
Across healthcare, and certainly here in the Chicagoland area, the creations of centers of excellence are quickly becoming best practice. Community hospitals no longer can provide all services to all patients while maintaining the excellent outcomes we, as well as our patients, expect.
We have seen several other systems take a similar approach with orthopedics, cardiovascular surgery as well as neurosurgery.
Our two Northwest Suburban hospitals, Ascension Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village and Ascension Saint Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates have been working together to provide the best possible care to the communities we serve for many years now. In fact, inpatient pediatric care transitioned to Saint Alexius Medical Center while cardiovascular surgery transitioned to Alexian Brothers in years past and have allowed us to provide both groups of patients access to care with the highest quality outcomes possible.
In a similar fashion, we have given a great deal of thought to transitioning inpatient obstetric care to Saint Alexius Medical Center in light of its broader scope of obstetrics-oriented services, such as a Level III NICU, which are not offered at Alexian Brothers Medical Center. Importantly, gynecology and outpatient obstetric care, including diagnostic imaging will continue to be offered at both hospitals.
The center of excellence at Saint Alexius Medical Center will also continue to support our OB GYN residency program. We will be able to continue to offer the best possible training to the young physicians we hope will continue to support this service in our community.
All associates at Alexian Brothers Medical Center will be offered positions at Saint Alexius Medical Center.
Emergency deliveries will continue at Ascension Alexian Brothers consistent with the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA). We will also provide emergency transportation services for patients best served by the Level III NICU at Ascension Saint Alexius Women and Children’s Hospital. Our Emergency Department is working with our EMS providers to remain the community hospital of choice. We will be meeting with them onsite in August to continue to strengthen our relationship with our paramedics across our communities.
