Transfer a patient to Dell Children’s
As a referring provider, you are connected directly with the accepting physician at Dell Children’s Medical Center Central and North Campuses. Our critical care transport team streamlines phone calls to get your patient transferred as quickly as possible. The transfer center is available by phone 24/7 to provide a centralized point of access and a coordinated transfer process to Dell Children’s for inter-facility transfers including for NICU, PICU, ECMO and trauma.
Please be ready to provide the following information when calling:
- Patient name and date of birth
- Referring physician name and direct callback number
- Referring hospital
- Brief diagnosis, chief complaint or service needed
- Basic patient condition
- Your name and phone number
After requesting a transfer, our experienced transport coordinators will handle the complete transfer process, including:
- Arranging for a patient bed
- Arranging for patient transportation
- Communicating with nursing
- Consulting with the accepting physician
- All other transfer needs
We use Nuance Powershare to quickly and securely share imaging exams and reports.
Dell Children’s critical care transport team
The Dell Children’s critical care transport team connects you and your patients to doctors and services at Dell Children’s Medical Center Central and North campuses. Our transport team works quickly to understand your patient’s needs while providing a seamless transfer of care experience for your doctors and care teams. We coordinate ground and air transportation. Dell Children’s offers a transport team of dedicated critical care transport professionals consisting of a registered nurse and registered respiratory therapist.
The team utilizes these modes of transport:
- AirMed International (FAA Part 135 Certificate Holder) for long distance transports that require fixed wing services (airplanes)
- American Medical Response for ground transport
- STARFlight™ (FAA Part 135 Certificate Holder) for rotor wing (helicopters)
The Dell Children’s Critical Care Transport Team, STARFlight™ and AirMed International are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS).
