Talk with a doctor about the breast screening right for you
Care teams at Ascension Borgess Breast Care Center know that getting regular preventive care and screenings many help find cancer early, when it is most treatable. If your mother, sister or daughter has been diagnosed with breast cancer, ask your doctor if you should have a breast screening test before the age of 40. For your convenience, you can schedule your mammogram online.
At Borgess Breast Care Center, we provide comprehensive breast imaging, including:
- 3D mammogram* (Tomosynthesis): When used as a screening tool, this 3D imaging technology increases the overall detection of breast cancer and reduces the recall rate for screenings – which provides high level details of your breast health. Tomosynthesis is an imaging X-ray technique used for the early detection of breast cancer and can help find cancers in dense breast tissue.
- 2D digital mammogram: This low dose X-ray exam produces high-quality images. The digital image can be enhanced and magnified for optimal evaluation.
- Breast ultrasound: This uses sound waves to create images of the breast. These ultrasound images are referred to as sonograms. Breast ultrasound is a non-invasive test and can aid in diagnosing benign and malignant disease.
- Bone density tests (DEXA scan): This is performed to evaluate patients to find and treat osteoporosis and to help prevent fractures that can lead to disability.
*A 3D mammogram may require an additional fee if your insurance carrier does not cover the full cost. Please check with your carrier to determine if you will be responsible for any of the costs.
We also offer our patients the new SmartCurve™ mammography paddle that can help make compression during a mammogram more comfortable.
We explain what to expect before your mammogram, ultrasound, bone density scan or biopsy. We listen if you have special needs or concerns, and we work with each patient on the testing or screening that is right for you.
Imaging services available
CT Scan (Computed Tomography)
CT scans use an X-ray generating device that rotates around your body and a powerful computer to create cross-sectional images. When you arrive for your test, you will change into a gown and lie on a table that slides in and out of a large tube called a CT. It is a painless imaging test that takes only minutes to complete.
We also provide low-dose CT lung screenings. Getting a low-dose CT scan may help find lung nodules or cancer early, when it is most treatable.
X-ray
X-rays are used to produce images of bones, organs and other tissues in the body. There are many different types of X-rays. Your doctor will order the type of X-ray that is right for you. We take the time to explain how to prepare for your X-ray. Most do not require any preparation.
For many imaging tests, a referral from your healthcare provider is required. A referral is not required for a screening mammogram. For questions about your insurance coverage, talk with your insurance provider.
