The acute inpatient rehabilitation unit is located inside the hospital and is for patients who are transitioning from an acute hospital stay to post-acute care. To be accepted to the unit, you must agree to actively participate in three hours of therapy daily for five days per week.
Inpatient rehabilitation services
We work together to deliver care that is right for you. Our care team treats conditions that affect movement, swallowing, and your ability to communicate. We help build your strength during the early stages of your recovery. Your therapy schedule is designed to help you live a more independent life.
We commonly care for adults with a variety of post-acute care needs due to:
- Amputation
- General debility related to prolonged hospitalization, cancer, acute illness, or chronic illness
- Neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis (MS), Guillain-Barre' syndrome (GBS), and Parkinson's disease
- Non-traumatic brain injury and mild traumatic brain injury
- Orthopedic conditions such as hip fracture, joint replacement, or osteoarthritis
- Pulmonary disorders such as pneumonia, COVID-19, or COPD
- Spinal cord dysfunction or injury
- Stroke
- Voice impairments (stuttering, vocal cord dysfunction, swallowing disorder, memory)
- Work-related injuries
A physician may refer you for evaluation or you may make your own evaluation appointment. For more information, to schedule a visit, and for admissions inquiries, please call 785-770-5753. For general hospital questions, please call 785-776-3322.
Family support is an essential part of recovery, and we will provide opportunities to include your loved ones in your care.
Types of post-acute care
If you are hospitalized for a serious illness or injury, your doctor may recommend some type of post-acute care after being discharged from the hospital. We help you reach a higher level of functional movement throughout your recovery.
Other post-acute care options may include home health care, skilled nursing and rural swing bed programs.
Our acute-care rehab provides the most intensive program tailored to help you return home. When you leave the hospital to recover at home, Via Christi’s network of outpatient physical therapy clinics and cardiac rehabilitation centers help you continue your recovery with guided therapy and exercises.
