Suman B. Rao, MD, is a board-certified, experienced medical oncologist and hematologist at Ascension Saint Agnes in Catonsville and Columbia, Maryland. Dr. Rao diagnoses and treats cancer using medications, such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted therapies. Every appointment with Dr. Rao starts with a conversation. Dr. Rao began her medical education in India where she received her medical degree from Gandhi Medical College and completed her internal medicine residency at Gandhi Hospital. She continued her training in Illinois, where she completed an internal medicine residency at St. Francis Hospital and was honored to serve as chief resident. Dr. Rao went on to complete her fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center.

Dr. Rao has been in the medical oncology-hematology community for over 20 years. She has a strong interest in clinical research and has had many publications, including in the New England Journal. The study that led to this publication resulted in the approval of immunotherapy for lung cancer patients.
