Richard Y Fleming, MDGeneral Surgery in Austin, TX

Dr. Fleming attended the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. He then completed a Residency in General Surgery at UTMB and a postdoctoral research fellowship in burns, trauma, and critical care at the Shriners Burns Institute in Galveston, Texas. Following the completion of his training in General Surgery, Dr. Fleming undertook a three-year fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. While completing this clinical and research fellowship, Dr. Fleming served as a Junior Faculty Associate at the Cancer Center, earning the Marvin M. Romsdahl Clinical Excellence Award and an American Cancer Society Clinical Oncology Fellowship Award. He has initiated and conducted clinical trials in the care of patients with melanoma, colon, breast, pancreatic, and liver cancers, and taught medical students and residents. In Austin he established a practice on the surgical care of patients with cancer. He serves as the Cancer Liaison Physician to the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer for both the Seton Health Network and the St. Davids Medical Center. He has been a member of the Colorectal Cancer Steering Committee for the American Cancer Society, Texas Division, and serves on the Board of Medical Directors for Hospice Austin.
