He received his medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Mickler completed an internship in internal medicine and residency training in ophthalmology at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Mickler has more than 10 years of experience in eye care for children. He has served as chief of pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and as a major in the United States Army Medical Corps. His research has been published in medical textbooks and in peer-reviewed journals, including Pediatric Annals, the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. He has presented to the annual meetings of the American Academy of Certified Orthoptists and the Florida Society of Ophthalmology. Dr. Mickler is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and member of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.
