Gerard J. Dr. Abood is skilled in a variety of innovative surgical techniques for the treatment of foregut, hepatobiliary, and peritoneal disease, including minimally invasive and robotic surgeries. Dr. Abood is one of few surgeons in the chicagoland area specializing in the use of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in combination with cytoreductive surgery. Dr. Abood is a high volume pancreatic surgeon performing both the Whipple procedure (also called pancreaticoduodenectomy) and distal pancreatectomy. He is skilled in the treatment of pancreatitis as well as complex gastrointestinal surgery for various benign conditions. Dr. Abood treats a wide variety of cancers including esophageal, gastroesophageal (also known as GEJ), stomach, gastrointestinal stromal tumors (also known as GISTs), cancer of the bile ducts (also known as cholangiocarcinoma), liver cancer, gallbladder cancer, appendiceal cancer, adrenal gland tumors, pancreatic cancer, neuroendocrine tumors, sarcomas, peritoneal carcinomatosis and metastatic cancers.

Dr. Abood has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals on topics related to GI malignancy.
