About Matthew M Kheir, MD
Matthew Kheir, MD, is a board-certified pulmonologist, intensivist, and internal medicine physician dedicated to caring for the whole patient at Ascension St. Vincent's in Jacksonville and Middleburg, Florida. Dr. Kheir has additional qualifications in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and is certified in advanced critical care echocardiography. His clinical approach blends evidence-based medicine with compassion, clear communication, and a deep commitment to improving each patient's quality of life.
Dr. Kheir completed his undergraduate studies in physics at the University of Michigan, earned his medical degree at the University of Minnesota Medical School, and completed residency training at Trios Health - University of Washington Medicine Community Health Partner. He went on to complete his Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship in New York City at Lenox Hill Hospital, Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra University/Northwell Health.
As a pulmonologist, Dr. Kheir evaluates and treats a wide range of respiratory and lung-related conditions, including asthma, COPD, emphysema, chronic cough, pulmonary nodules, interstitial lung disease and pulmonary fibrosis, CF and non-CF bronchiectasis, pleural disease, recurrent pneumonia, pulmonary embolism, pulmonary hypertension, sleep apnea, and respiratory complications of complex medical conditions. He also has specialized expertise in airway evaluation, advanced bronchoscopy, and lung cancer diagnosis.
Dr. Kheir is also an active leader and educator in his field. He serves as a committee member with the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) and has taught critical care medicine and ultrasound at the national level, contributing to the education of physicians across the country. His academic work includes 18 peer-reviewed publications, 3 book chapters, and multiple presentations at national conferences.
When not caring for patients, Dr. Kheir enjoys spending time with his wife and child especially exploring parks, beaches, and new adventures.
