Kelly Aten, CNM, is an experienced, certified nurse midwife at Ascension Illinois in Lake Zurich and Hoffman Estates near Chicago, IL. Kelly starts by listening to understand you and your preferences as a woman. Then, she works with you to deliver compassionate, personalized prenatal care throughout pregnancy, and uses natural birthing techniques for labor and delivery. Midwifery services also include annual exams, postpartum care after giving birth, and helping women manage menopause symptoms.

Kelly is excited to join the team at Ascension, bringing her wide variety of previous experience in small community hospitals, large tertiary hospitals, and community birth settings. She completed her undergraduate nursing training at Indiana State University in 2001, and received her Master's Degree in Nurse-Midwifery in 2016 from Frontier Nursing University.

Kelly brings with her many years of experience as a labor nurse and as a nurse midwife. She believes in building a relationship with her clients and is a strong advocate of shared decision-making.

Kelly offers preconception care, prenatal care, physiologic birth support, well-woman care, menopausal support, and general gynecological services such as management of difficult periods, infection screening, pap smears, breast exams, and pelvic health evaluations. She focuses on evidence-based care, while respecting the needs of the individual person. Kelly also practices trauma-informed care, empowering clients to engage in their healthcare and respecting each individual person as the expert of their own body. She is also a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Provider, having completed her PMH-C Certification in 2021.

When not caring for patients, Kelly enjoys gardening, crafting, baking, playing card and board games, and traveling whenever she has the chance.
