Dr. Shippey specializes in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, or urogynecology. He provides comprehensive management of female pelvic floor disorders including urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, bladder pain, overactive bladder, vaginal fistulae and urethral diverticula, employing conservative, medical and surgical interventions. Dr. Shippey is board-certified in obstetrics-gynecology, as well as female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Shippey comes to Pensacola after serving as associate director of urogynecology at the Riverside OB/GYN Residency Program in Newport News, Virginia. Prior to retiring from the Navy in July 2020, he was an associate professor of OB/GYN at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. His Navy leadership experience includes service as director for surgical services at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital in Virginia and as a senior medical officer at the NATO Role 3 Military Medical Unit in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Dr. Shippey is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a member of the American Urogynecologic Society. His research has been published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Journal of Reproductive Medicine, the International Urogynecology Journal, the Journal of Surgical Education, Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery, Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation and the Journal of Sexual Medicine. In affiliation with the University of Florida College of Medicine, Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola provides hands-on training to resident physicians who have completed medical school, are licensed to practice medicine and are preparing to become specialists in obstetrics-gynecology. Physician residents in these programs are trained and supervised by University of Florida faculty physicians at Ascension Sacred Heart.
