Elizabeth A. Schaefer, MD, is a pediatric gastroenterologist at Peyton Manning Children's Hospital in Fishers and Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr. Schaefer has the expertise to diagnose and care for gastrointestinal (GI) diseases and disorders in infants, children and teens. She takes a family-centered approach to care, working with families to make supportive changes and provide the right care plan for each child, including evidence-based therapeutics and non-surgical minimally invasive procedures, whenever possible.

Dr. Schaefer is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Medicine. She completed her pediatric residency at the University of Louisville, KY, and her pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition fellowship at the Indiana University Medical Center. Dr. Schaefer is board-certified in pediatric gastroenterology and general pediatrics.

Dr. Schaefer enjoys all aspects of pediatric gastroenterology with special interests in eosinophilic esophagitis (allergic esophagitis), reflux, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease and nutrition. As part of our multispecialty approach for complex conditions, Dr. Schaefer works with pediatric specialists when needed to provide comprehensive care, including surgical options. Dr. Schaefer's goal is to determine the cause of your child's symptoms and deliver a care plan that helps provide relief.

Dr. Schaefer is a member of several professional organizations, including the North American Society for Pediatrics Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, American College of Gastroenterology, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and she has presented at local and national meetings, but most of all she enjoys clinical practice and teaching.
