About Charles Duncan Fraser, Jr, MD
Charles D. Fraser, Jr., MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon at Dell Children's in Austin, Texas. Dr. Fraser surgically repairs congenital heart defects in children and adults, and acquired heart conditions. Dr. Fraser has a clinical interest in heart failure, VAD and transplant, single ventricle defects, coronary artery disease, VSD patch surgery, and correcting structural heart conditions in teens and young adults caused by congenital disorders. He is trained in pediatric cardiac surgery using robotic-assisted, minimally invasive surgical techniques. Dr. Fraser is the executive director of the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease, and executive director of the Institute for Cardiovascular Health. He is a professor at Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin, Departments of Surgery and Perioperative Care, and Pediatrics. His leadership at the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease has help forge a partnership between Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin and Dell Children’s, a part of Ascension Seton.
Dr. Fraser is a physician-researcher of clinical studies about congenital heart surgical outcomes and quality, heart and lung transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, brain protection, and bioengineering. He is a longstanding advocate of public reporting of surgical outcomes and transparency. He has contributed to more than 300 peer-review journal articles, numerous chapters and textbooks.
