Brian E. Kaufman, MD, is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon who provides personalized care for bone, muscle and joint conditions that affect children and teens. He specializes in scoliosis and spinal deformity while also providing general pediatric orthopedic and orthopedic trauma care at Dell Children's Medical Center in Austin, Texas. And you'll have an entire care team dedicated to your child's care and recovery including occupational and physical therapists, advanced practice providers, and nurse navigators to help shorten your child's return to health.

Dr. Kaufman has a special interest in scoliosis and spinal deformity of idiopathic, neuromuscular, syndromic, and congenital etiologies.

Dr. Kaufman received fellowship training in pediatric orthopedic surgery from the renowned Nemours/A.I. Dupont Hospital for Children and completed his residency training at The George Washington University.

Dr. Kaufman serves as the Chief of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery at Dell Children's Medical Center, chairs the Surgeon Performance and Evaluation Council, and is a member of the Medical Executive Committee. Dr. Kaufman has also held various committee membership positions in the Scoliosis Research Society and the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America while also holding membership in the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Dr. Kaufman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care at the University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Kaufman was recognized in 2024 as the annual "Golden Apple" award winner as the educator of the year for orthopedic trainees. He has been recognized consistently as Top Doctor in Austin and a Rising Star in the state of Texas by Texas Monthly. Dr. Kaufman has received numerous awards for his quality improvement initiatives focused on enhanced recovery after scoliosis surgery while limiting complications.

Dr. Kaufman has also received local and nationally funded grants to pursue research focused on improving the quality of care provided to scoliosis patients.

When not caring for patients, Dr. Kaufman enjoys chasing after his three active children, coaching youth sports, fishing, exploring new restaurants, and cheering on the Longhorns. Hook 'em!
